In general, a woman wants to feel loved, appreciated and noticed by her mate. A man wants to feel that he is respected and not undermined. A healthy relationship is one where both parties are willing to give. The most successful relationships are said to be those with two good givers. Selfishness has no place in a lasting happy partnership. If you see a tendency toward selfishness in yourself, work at learning to give more of yourself. Remember that if your loved one is happy, you will be happy too. Personal interest goes a long way in any close relationship. Knowing what your partner feels and needs and responding appropriately, will make you a better partner.
